Expedition details

The possibilities and variations on this trip are endless and will be tailor-make it to fit the individuals in the team. We will combine skiing with pulkas, beautiful tent camps, Randonnée skiing, a few summits, climbing and an exciting visit to a hidden snow cave. Most likely we will see reindeers, grouse and other wildlife as we ski into the stunning scenery Svalbard offers. And best of all; we will make is exactly as strenuous as you want ;-)

We do packing, preparations & briefings in Longyearbyen and then head out by transport towards Bolterdalen and our starting point. This trip is not technical, we are on snow the entire time, all campsites are on snow and the terrain varies between glacier and snow-covered ground.

the route

From Bolterdalen, into Tverdalen and back again through Fox Dalen is approximately 33 km. The return drive from Longyearbyen is 10 km. Se details under Day-by-Day:

Day by day

Day: We all arrive at Longyearbyen the same day, (or the previous day if you want) and use the rest of this day to pack provisions and equipment. (Forgotten items can be bought in the local sports store). When we are done packing, we head out in the field in a vehicle. We ski for 1 or 2 hours and set camp in Bolterdalen. Instructions on how to set camp and camp routines are done as we go along.

Day 2: We enjoy a good breakfast and make the plan for the day. One option is to ski towards Scott Turner Glacier and visit a snow cave. We enter the ice cave and in the lights from our headlamps we experience ice in a way that few people have. The still standing air in the cave gives the ice perfect conditions to form magnificent shapes and beautiful colours.
When we are done with the snow cave, we eat our lunch and start skiing towards our camp site.

Day 3: We enjoy the beautiful scenery and have a long breakfast on day 3. We are now in an area that offers lots of possibilities, and we may opt to explore the nearby mountain tops before we break camp and ski a bit further. The goal for the day is to climb up Dalburg glacier and either camp at the top or go down to Fleinisen - depending on the weather.

Day 4: We start descending towards Foxdalen and we have some exciting skiing to look forward to. The last part of Foxdalen is truly beautiful and we ski along the riverbanks down towards Adventsdalen. We head back to our starting point and are shuttled back to Longyearbyen. We end the day with a fine dinner in Longyearbyen where there are many restaurants to be found.

Day 5: Clean up and restitution is on the plan for the day as we prepare ourselves to go back to our everyday life with new memories and experiences.
