Expedition details
The possibilities and variations on this trip are endless and will be tailor-made to fit the individuals in the team. We will combine skiing with pulkas, beautiful tent camps, skiing and maybe a summit . Most likely, we will see reindeer, grouse, and other wildlife as we ski into the stunning scenery Svalbard offers.
We do packing, preparations & briefings in Longyearbyen and then head out by transport towards Bolterdalen and our starting point. This trip is not technical, we are on snow the entire time, all campsites are on snow and the terrain varies between glacier and snow-covered ground.
the route
From Bolterdalen, we head into Janssondalen, towards and up Møysalbreen. The complete route is about 50 km
Day by day
Day 1-2: We all arrive at Longyearbyen a day before we head out, and use this day to pack provisions and equipment. (Forgotten items can be bought in the local sports store). The next day we will be transported to our starting point outside of town. We ski into Janssondalen where we set camp. Instructions on how to set camp and camp routines are done as we go along. We do bear watch during the night for around 1 hour each. This is the best hour of the night, as it it quiet and a good time for reconnecting with yourself and the beautiful nature around you. This is also a perfect opportunity to make those incredible pictures as the light is gorgeous.
Day 3: We enjoy a good breakfast and make the plan for the day. We ski further into the valley towards Møysalbreen. As we get closer we will see the glacier rise up, and start out ascend towards the top. If the weather allows us we set up camp on the top and wake up to an amazing view tomorrow morning!
Day 4: After another night of bear watch from on top of the mountain we wake up to the most incredible view (weather permitting) enjoy a good breakfast. We either pack up camp for a short move or we just put on a small backpack and go for a day trip. Today we have time to summit one of the nunataks rising up out of the glacier.
Day 5: As this is our last day out in the field, we pack up the camp and start our decent back down the glacier. We head back to our starting point and are shuttled back to Longyearbyen. We end the day with a warm shower and a nice dinner in Longyearbyen where there are many restaurants to be found.
Day 6: Clean up and restitution is on the plan for the day as we prepare ourselves to go back to our everyday life with new memories and experiences.
